Choral music in Texas: alive and well!
Billy Talley, TCDA President

talleyChoral music is alive and well in Texas! The Texas Choral Directors Association had a very successful summer convention in July, 2014. Highlights included an Elementary Honor Choir with Doreen Rao as conductor, a church division Festival Chorus premiering a commissioned work by Dr. Dan Forrest, performances by the San Antonio Chamber Singers and the Ken Davis Chorale, thirteen new music reading sessions and thirty workshops. Our first ever Sing-In of Mozart’s REQUIEM was a big hit, with Dr. Jerry McCoy conducting a fifty-piece orchestra and over seven-hundred singers.

On July 23-26, 2015, TCDA will celebrate its 60th Anniversary at the San Antonio Convention Center. This summer’s convention will feature a Middle School/Junior High Honor Choir with Andrea Ramsey as conductor and a Directors Chorus under the direction of Sandra Snow. We will have two commissioned works: a middle school piece by Dominick DiOrio and an SATB work by Susan LaBarr. After last summer’s Sing-In success, we will continue this new tradition with Schubert’s Mass in G (bring your own score or purchase one from our music vendors). As always, there will be reading sessions, relevant workshops, and outstanding choral performances by some of Texas’ finest choral directors and ensembles. Come join us as we celebrate our past and prepare for the future.
